Marital Love Project is a Catholic initiative that seeks to help spouses rediscover the greatness of the Sacrament of Marriage and live it to the fullest, drawing primarily from the spirituality of Saint John Paul II, as well as from the Church Fathers and the Church’s doctrine. Through retreats, gatherings, and ongoing accompaniment, it offers a practical and spiritual path to strengthen marital unity, heal wounds, grow in love, and open themselves to God’s grace in everyday life.

Its goal is that every marriage—regardless of its difficulties or stage in life—may experience that marital love is both a vocation and a mission, capable of transforming the couple’s relationship and family life. With accessible language and real testimonies, Marital Love Project invites spouses to live mutual self-giving as a path to holiness and happiness, discovering that marriage is not an unattainable ideal, but a concrete and joyful way of living the Gospel.

In what way does this initiative enhance the formation of the laity?
Marital Love Project promotes the formation of lay people by offering a path to discover and live out their vocation, based on Saint John Paul II’s catecheses on the Theology of the Body. Although its content is profoundly spiritual, it is transmitted in a simple and practical way, illuminating the daily life of married couples. Its purpose is not merely intellectual, but a response to God’s love and plan for marriage, helping spouses to live their vocation in fullness. Thus, husbands and wives discover that their ordinary life —marriage, children, family, work, and service— is the place where they are called to be sanctified and to evangelize. This Project, essentially missionary, forms lay people who live coherently with their sacrament and, through them, fosters families united and rooted in Christ, radiating Trinitarian love and becoming instruments of God for evangelization and the building of His Kingdom.

Why is this initiative important for forming and promoting the laity in your country?
In a time of deep crisis for marriage and the family, Marital Love Project emerges as an inspiration from the Virgin Mary and a response of the Holy Spirit to the needs of the Church. It offers spouses a path of salvation and rediscovery of their vocation to love —a call to reflect Trinitarian communion and the love of Christ for His Church. It is not only for couples in crisis, but for all, as it invites them to embrace the cross as the path to resurrection and fullness of life. Through retreats, catechesis, and personal accompaniment, this Project strengthens the spiritual life of lay people, showing that marriage is both a vocation to holiness and a missionary calling. In this way, many marriages are renewed, families are restored, and homes become true domestic churches —witnesses to the power of God, who never considers any marriage lost.

How was this initiative developed?
Marital Love Project was born in 2002 in Fátima, when the Virgin Mary entrusted a married couple from Málaga, José Luis and Magüi, with the mission of transmitting a path for spouses. After years of searching, they discovered the catechesis of Saint John Paul II, and by living them, their once-broken marriage was transformed into a profound communion rich in fruits. This experience of resurrection moved them to share the treasure they had received with other couples, forming the first groups where the Theology of the Body was lived out through a new and practical charism. In 2016, with the first retreat based on these catecheses, the Project began to expand: the fruits were so abundant that it quickly spread throughout Spain. Its growth has never depended on campaigns, but on the spontaneous call of couples and priests moved by the desire to bring this path to their own dioceses.

Does it benefit the laity on a national or local level?
Marital Love Project offers lay people a concrete path to live their matrimonial vocation in fullness, strengthening their faith and Christian commitment. Through retreats, catecheses, and personal accompaniment, it helps spouses heal wounds, rediscover the spiritual dimension of their union, and live their marriage as a mission. This strengthens the family, the upbringing of children, and the social environment, transforming couples into witnesses of God’s love and apostles of the Gospel in daily life. Furthermore, it encourages lay people to serve within their communities and parishes, accompanying other families and taking an active part in the life of the Church. In this way, it forms marriages that are mature in faith, aware of their role in the Church, and committed to Christ’s mission: “Go into all the world and proclaim the Gospel to every creature” (Mk 16:15).
